New Background Options

As some of you may have noticed, there are some new background options by default, for your khimeras. You don't have to buy anything to get these options. You can now choose from white, black, or transparent backgrounds. You can select these when dressing up your pet. This change was necessary, because we're going to be introducing a VERY cool new feature that requires this, in the near future. It is also part of the merger, as this is the way backgrounds work on Aluriya. Stay tuned for more info!

Black background packs (and the contents, as long as they make up one full pack) will be redeemable once we figure out how the background redeeming "thing" is going to work.

Retro Packs and Turn-in Month

I know that many of you are wondering when the retro packs will be gone and when turn-in month will start. It looks like we MAY be prepared to start turn-ins on August 1st, barring any unforseen difficulties. However, retro packs will not be changing out, yet. We are still working on a few last things for the packs so they won't be changing out on the 1st. We will give you at least 24 hours notice before we remove retro packs.

OHNOES! It seems that over the past weeks, crabs have infiltrated all areas of the site, dragging items from the beach with them! We need your help to gather the misplaced items before they start to... well... smell :c



Khistopher is especially concerned that the ecology of the beach be preserved since his precious chrysalids are particularly sensitive to environmental changes. As such, he will be offering a reward to anyone who can return ten of the missing items to him.

NOTE ABOUT THE SHINY NEW SCAVENGER HUNTS. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

The way scavenger hunts work has changed considerably. Each hunt will be available for one week. While the hunt is active, you can start your hunt at a time most convenient for you - after beginning your hunt, you have a period of 24 hours to scour the site to find your items.

There are a total of 10 items to find per hunt. Pretty much any page on the site is fair game to find an item, but they will not show up on tournament or RP community pages. Pages like shop search results, etc. are included! Making these hunts more challenging than the previous scavenger hunts!

When in doubt, refer to the URL of the page - everything before and including the ".php" constitutes a unique page which you may find an item on! So for example, if one of your items is to be found on a khimera page, the same item will show up on every khimera page on the site and will only be able to be collected once from one of these pages (you may note that the URL BEFORE the ".php" is identical for every khimera). This goes for all other pages that differ only by the individual it belongs to; i.e. profile page, lair pages, khimbit dens, HAs, user shops, galleries, journals, forum threads, forum posts, etc.

Prizes will be handed out at the end of the hunt according to whoever completed their hunts in the least amount of time!
When you find an item, click it and it will take you to your treasure hunt checklist page. You can also access the checklist under "World" in the main navigation menu.

When you have located all 10 treasures, the hunt will automatically complete!

Of course, there are PRIZES!!

the following prizes will be awarded to the fastest users to find all items, regardless of when you begin the hunt.

1st place = gold trophy + chrysalis of your choice + "2012 retro packs" double treasure pack
2nd and 3rd = silver trophy + panthira chrysalis
4th, 5th, 6th = bronze trophy + "2012 retro packs" double treasure pack

Everyone who completes the hunt will receive a participation trophy + a giant crab worth 15 points in the points shop!



In addition, for every item you find, regardless if you complete the hunt or not, you will receive a Marine Festival 2012 Raffle Token that you can use in an upcoming fun raffle for cool prizes!



Keep in mind that every person has a different set of item locations, so just because your friend found an item on a khimera's page, does not mean that you will find one of your items there.

We have a fun new feature to announce - customizeable khimbits!

Meet the fennik, the very first custom-demoable ("silver custom") khimbit breed!

Check them out in the demo here. Please note you need to select a breed and gender and hit regenerate before you will see the base.

Female and Male Fenniks



Male and female fenniks each have a different pose! They will be breedable, and are still equipable to your khimeras. They will have their own section in the khimbit den (which is being revamped atm).

Currently rainbow enigma is demo-able, but will not be available for creation until a later date ;) Regular rainbow body marking is available, and you can make a body marking regular rainbow at no extra charge.

Serums are also able to be used on silver custom khimbits.

Fenniks currently have two variations, fae wings and bird wings, and 13 different markings: Upper, Under (these two are free, as always), Mackerel Tabby, Okapi, Panda, Python, Raccoon, Rainbow, Spotted Seal, Tapir, Tiger, Fox Under, and Fox Upper.

Now, the burning question is, "HOW DO I GET MY HANDS ON THESE??"

"Silver Custom" Khimbits will be an annual event during turn-in month (August). Each year during the month of August you will have the chance to "turn in" any unwanted forageable khimbits and select items, for points, just as you do with unwanted monthly treasures for the treasure trade-in.

Next year, there will also be forageable khimbit "retro packs" that contain previous years' khimbits, that will be available to purchase with trinkets (possibly excluding the past year's khimbits).

Seeing as this news is likely to change the value of items that can be traded in for points (you can find a list of all items and the points they are worth here), we have frozen these items in shops so that you can adjust prices or remove these items from your shops if you wish. There will be a button in your shop that you can click to make these items buyable again. PLEASE NOTE that the points value of these items is valid for THIS YEAR ONLY and may change for next year's event!

We MAY offer other events or limited edition cash shop items for additional silver custom khimbit breeds through the year, but the only way to get a fennik will be through this turn in event, or if they are offered in subsequent years' turn-in events, or through site contests/giveaways/auctions/raffles. In addition to fennik mini chrysalids used to create a fennik, your points will also be able to buy you pattern and variation crystals and breeding crystals (breeding crystals will also be made available in other ways throughout the year). More information on points needed to purchase these items will be posted when we open up the trade-in event and the silver custom khimbit points shop, in August.

OK not really. But you may see some alu related links floating around temporarily related to merger coding. If you ignore them, they will go away... eventually :P

In the meantime, please do not touch/play with anything if you happen to have access to something that it looks like you should not have access to, like someone else's menagerie. We'll try to get everything back to normal as soon as possible.

Multipack Opener now works on all monthly treasure packs

First off, I've now put ALL monthly treasure packs onto the multi-opener system. I know at one point we'd decided that we'd only leave the packs that were created after the multi-opener was in place, on that system, but eventually it was decided to simple move ALL packs onto the multi-open system. However, wires seem to have got crossed somewhere along the way and I thought this had been done long ago, but it wasn't. All monthly treasure packs should be on the multi-opener now (if you find one that isn't, please let me know). This does NOT include special packs like Haiti Relief, the actual retro packs, etc. I apologize for the delay, I would have had this in place before retro month if I realized it hadn't been done.

Keep in mind that this does mean that there are no longer "commons" and "rares" from old packs that used to feature them. All items within a pack are now of equal rarity.

A bit about Tournament Prizes

Another issue that I had thought was addressed in the news, but many users are saying that it was not, so I want to say a bit about tournament prizes from the last battle tournament.

The prizes for the last tournament (at least some of them) are meant to be weapons. However, we cannot release weapons in a points shop format without first figuring out how they are going to work with the battle system. That means we need to revisit the battle system and make any necessary changes to incorporate weapons BEFORE we can release prizes. There is also a small chance that we may end up completely revamping the battle system such that weapons are not needed, in which case we'd obviously want to offer different prizes.

A completely new battle system is being coded for Aluriya as part of the merger. It is a much more sophisticated system than what khimeros has atm. It's possible that we may use this battle system for khimeros tournaments as well. There's a lot of testing by staff and then users that will need to be done before we decide how to proceed.

So, that's what's "holding up" the tournament prizes. We'll get them out as soon as we know what's going on with future battle on khimeros.
