We have made an important adjustment to beads.

It came to my attention that users, both here and on other sites, were of the mistaken impression that our customs cost $40 because they cost 40 beads. Other people have expressed confusion over our current bead purchasing system and have purchased more beads than they intended to. Obviously this is not good for the site.

For the good of the site, we've decided to change the bead rate from $0.50 to $1 per bead.

You are NOT losing anything at all by this change! Think of it this way. Imagine that your country decided to discontinue the use of fifty cent coins and asks all citizens to bring their fifty cent pieces to the bank to exchange them for dollar coins. You give the bank 20 fifty cent pieces, and get 10, 1 dollar coins back. You still have the same amount of money you started with. You just have it now in dollar coins instead of fifty cent coins.

Of course, with the change in beads we've adjusted the price of custom chrysalids. Instead of 40 beads for a purebred chrysalis, you now pay 20 beads (they still cost exactly the same price as before).

Where a user had an uneven amount of beads, we adjusted your number of beads UP.

This should not affect your game play at all, but do be sure to adjust bead prices on your for sale khimeras.

Alpha phase will be ending after the current batch of accounts is sold out.

Once we have finished selling alpha accounts we will begin selling forever upgrades, and these will be available to alpha account holders only. They will never be sold again.

In addition, there will be a package of limited edition items for alpha-only members, and the ability to participate in free raffles for custom chrysalids (custom creation tokens).

Alpha members will also receive a "Founding Member" trophy for your profile, AND all customs created until closed beta begins will also receive a trophy that will stay with them for life!

So don't miss out on the goodies!

I would like to point out that if you have purchased a registration code but not actually registerd an account, you are going to miss out on the alpha-only goodies. Only those accounts registered BEFORE or DURING the forever upgrade sales, raffles, and item giveaways will be eligible.

Once we have ended the special alpha-only activites, we'll move on to closed beta, meaning that users will be able to sign up for free, but each batch of free accounts will be first come, first served and will likely go very fast.

I noticed that most of the offspring of different base colored pairs were coming out as an almost exact mix of the parents' colors. This isn't what was intended, so the script has been tweaked. Khimas can now come out colored exactly the same as either parent, or any color in between.

Because khimas are actually generated at the time you breed the parents, you won't see this change take effect for current litters if the parents were bred before we made this change, earlier this evening.

We will also be increasing the chance for wings to pass on when a wingless is bred to a winged khimera or when khimeras with two different kinds of wings are bred.

Announcing our first monthly art contest!

October 2009 challenge: draw your choice of spooky/creepy khimera!

Must be a type of khimera that currently exists, "quad" form only. Can be traditional or digital, stand-alone khimera or with background.

First prize: Trophy and a purebred chrysalis of your choice!

Second prize: Trophy and $10 worth of beads

Third prize: Trophy and $5 worth of beads

We will also draw a random winner from all entries to receive $5 worth of beads!

We may also have "mystery" categories for all art contests. It may be most creative, most colorful, funniest... you never know, so it doesn't hurt to enter!

Just to clarify, you may also use sculpture/collage/or other kinds of real media for your entry. Just submit a clear photo or scan of your creation :)

One entry per person, please. Your entry must be YOUR creation. PM the link to your entry to Onyx, here on the site, by midnight, Pacific Standard Time, October 31 with "October Art Contest Entry" in the subject line, otherwise your entry may be overlooked!
