We've made a slight change to breeding limits.

After giving it a lot of thought, we realized that the only way to make this work, is to exempt customs from breeding limits (Custom to custom breeding only).

If we don't, we're discouraging people from buying new customs once they get past a certain number. As someone who has 50+ customs on another site, I know that it would curtail my wanting more customs if there was a breeding cap that meant I could not breed my customs every week if I chose to.

Customs are a large part of what pays for the site, so we would really be shooting ourselves in the foot if we did that :/

I know that some people are going to be upset that this gives people who spend money an advantage when it comes to breeding, but the hard fact is that the people who are spending money are the ones paying for the site to be used for free by people who don't spend. We know that not everyone can, or wants to spend real money here, and that's totally fine. But the paying members DO deserve some advantage for paying the bills and also keeping the site ad-free for everyone else to enjoy.

I hope you will all be understanding about this decision XD

No... it's not here yet XD But it's coming VERY soon. We don't have an exact date/time that we are releasing beta accounts, but it could be as soon as 24 hours from now. Wanted to give you all a head's up on that if you are planning to create any last customs in order to get the alpha custom trophies, get your forever upgrades, etc.

PLEASE do not ask me for updates (in the chat, etc) on when beta is starting, between now and when beta actually starts XD Or ask for hints, etc. As soon as we have an exact date/time set, we will let you know by posting in the news. Until then, the answer is "we don't know yet" XD

Since the results of the poll were unanimously in favor of releasing new patterns before beta, as some of you have already noticed, there are two new patterns, "vines" and "petals" in the custom demo! Brought to you once again by Hanyoutai!

And on that note... I know there has been some grumbling over the type of patterns that are being released. There is a misconception that khimeros would only have "natural" patterns, i.e. markings found in nature or that might possibly be found in nature.

This is because when we talked about dyes on the temp forums, it was stated that "unnatural" markings would be made into dyes, not actual coat patterns. However, the kind of "unnatural" markings we were talking about were things like rigid geometric patterns, hearts, stars (that is, geometric five pointed star shapes), rigid vertical stripes, etc. For the record, dyes on khimeros are actual dyes, and do not pass down to offspring.

The "main" site patterns are meant to be more "organic" type markings, but not ONLY things like tiger stripes and leopard spots. Khimeros is a fantasy world, and does not only contain things found in the natural world. You do not find winged lions, or otter-horse hybrids, in nature, after all.

I believe that way back when markings were first being discussed on the temp forums, we were considering a more rigid approach to patterns being ONLY natural markings found on real animals, but we realized months ago that this was simply too restrictive an approach.

I've corrected the idea that we only have "natural" markings any number of times on the chat and the temp forums before this, but the idea seems to be very persistent, so I thought a news post might help lay the matter to rest.

Similarly, my original intention was to have a more vague "rose" marking for the petals pattern, but I really liked the way the pattern came out with more of an actual look of real roses, so that is what we went with.

I hope that at least some people will enjoy the new patterns! It's impossible for us to please everyone with every new pattern that is released. And I don't think it's fair to restrict the type of patterns we release, simply because some people want only "natural" markings.

There is no compulsion for anyone to buy, breed, or sell khimeras with any patterns they don't like, but it's nice for those who enjoy the more whimsical designs to have that choice available to them.
