Hi guys! Here's With, bringing you the latest batch of updates.
Introducing Searchability As mentioned a few news posts past, your lair is now divided up into searchable and unsearchable slots! All slots purchased up until now are searchable, and all users have received an additional 100 unsearchable slots. From now on, all new users will begin the game with 100 searchable and 200 unsearchable slots. All your customs have been automatically set to searchable, but otherwise your khimeras have all been kicked off the search index! On each khimera's page there is now a checkbox that you can tick if you'd like them to be searchable. Note that putting a khimera up for trade, auction or in transfers will automatically take them off the search. How do you get more lair slots? Firstly, searchable slots as usual are available as a pack of 10 for 1 bead, and you can now purchase unsearchable slots at 5k trinkets each. Upgraded users still get their extra searchable slot every month, and all users now have an opportunity to gain additional unsearchable slots every month depending on how frequently they check in with Khimeros. Every user starts off the month with 10 bonus slots - for every day that the user does not access the site, they lose 1 slot (to a minimum of 0 for non-upgraded users, or a minimum of 5 for upgraded users). You will receive these unsearchable slots at the end of every month. To clarify: If you access the site every day of the month, you will gain 10 unsearchable slots at the end of the month. If you miss a day, you will gain 9 slots. If you only check in with us on 20 days, you will gain 0 slots (unless you are upgraded, in which case you will gain 5). You cannot check your bonus slots anywhere on the site - just make sure to come back everyday to check the site out to maximise your monthly lair slot harvest :P I don't need all these lair slots! For anyone who purchased lair slots before the 27th of November 2012, you may have those lair slots refunded at the cost you bought them at. This offer will stand indefinitely, but will only apply to lair slot purchases made before today. Unfortunately due to a lack of a comprehensive sales history, these refunds only extend to the beginning of September 2011.  How about releasing? Let's recap: Before this change, release had a 100% chance of giving you trinkets and a 50% chance of giving you a breeding slot. In order to curb excessive releases due to the new changes, we've decided to introduce daily diminishing returns. This means that the chance of gaining a reward from releasing a khimera is reduced every time you release a khimera - this is reset everyday at midnight site time. The new probabilities are now as follows and will always be available on the khimera release page for your reference: 1st release of the day: 80% chance of a breeding slot, 100% chance of trinkets 2nd release of the day: 70% chance of a breeding slot, 100% chance of trinkets 3rd release of the day: 60% chance of a breeding slot, 100% chance of trinkets 4th release of the day: 50% chance of a breeding slot, 100% chance of trinkets 5th release of the day: 40% chance of a breeding slot, 80% chance of trinkets 6th release of the day: 30% chance of a breeding slot, 60% chance of trinkets 7th release of the day: 20% chance of a breeding slot, 40% chance of trinkets 8th release of the day: 10% chance of a breeding slot, 20% chance of trinkets 9th release of the day: 0% chance of a breeding slot, 0% chance of trinkets After and including the 9th release, releasing a khimera no longer gives any chance of breeding slot or trinkets. In order to maximise your returns I'd recommend staggering your releases over the week as much as possible. THAT'S STILL NOT ENOUGH BREEDING SLOTS Weekly free breeding slots have now been raised to 20 for upgraded users and 15 for non-upgraded users - this will take effect this coming Thursday.  Shimmering Crystals IN ADDITION to being able to receive breeding slots and trinkets, there is now a 2% chance of receiving a Shimmering Crystal from releasing a khimera. Note that we will be monitoring and tweaking this number in the future based on how the price of the Crystals are affected. We have also added Firefly Potions into Crystal Quest - you now have a chance of getting any Mini Firefly Pack or Firefly Potion when using a shimmering crystal.  It seems likely that this combination may be unstable, so don't count on these chrysalids being createable for more than a couple of months. Any witara chrysalids that are created will remain useable forever, however. Go here to combine your items! Witaras are now viewable through the custom demo, and createable with a witara chrysalis. Witaras come with 2 markings plus feather wings and mane (upper and under are free as always), and a new type of variation called "breed". There is an extra 5 bead charge for creation. To celebrate the release of the witara, we will be randomly restocking 10 free uwila chrysalids in the foraging areas over the next month! Happy hunting! Continuing the witara festivities, we are opening up gold custom khimeras once more! Gold custom witaras will be available from today until January 25, 2013. Gold customs cost $65 each and include the generation 1 witara base (including 2 markings + wings, mane and "breed" variation), the themed custom overlay created by Hibbary, and one khimbit version of your custom! You can view the rules for gold custom khimera ordering here. Please note that you must read these rules before ordering a gold custom Gold Custom Witara theme examples: "Magma" and "Mandarin Goby"   Gold customs will be done a little differently this time than they were last time. Instead of posting on the forums, we now have handy order forms! You can find gold custom order forms here. We have also included a new feature in the custom demo to aid with the gold custom process. You can now use all serums, firefly potions, the enigma essence and mini enigma essence, right through the custom demo when creating a new khimera! You must have these items in your inventory in order to create a design that requires them. In addition, the custom demo now supports multiple markings - for example, you may use two Tigers when designing a single khimera. Some Aluriyans may be familiar with how to put this system to good use - for the rest of you, I recommend playing around in the demo some ;) Note that when searching for a khimera with multiple of a certain marking, the search will only register the top-most of the markings. Note that although you can now apply multiple dyes when creating a khimera, you are not currently able to apply multiple dyes to an existing khimera! When dying a khimera that already has the dye applied to it, the dye will simply be replaced. A feature for applying multiple dyes will be made available in the future.   In addition to this addition, you now have "slots" where you can save your custom designs! You can save a design, and go back and tweak or create it later. You can also share your custom designs with another user, and they can save a tweaked design to their own slot to create or to pass it back again! Regular users have 2 "save slots" and upgraded users have 5 slots to use. If you have 5 designs saved and then become non-upgraded, you will be able to load your extra 3 designs, but you will not be able to save changes to them, or save over them, until you upgrade again. In order to submit an order for a gold custom khimera, you will need to create the "underlay" design first and save it to one of your slots. You will then assign this design to your gold custom, which can be done very simply through the gold custom order form. If you select extra markings, you will be charged the extra beads through the custom form. You must have the necessary beads, as well as any potions or essences required to create the custom, in your inventory when you submit your order, or it will fail. If you want to apply dyes, glows, etc to your underlay later, simply leave them out of your design when you submit. 37 Comments |

There are whispered rumors of other strange goings-on. In the forest, the mysterious solitary lady who has occasionally been glimpsed leading a haltered Embarr, has actually been spotted in what appeared to be deep and serious conversation with Khistopher and Laskai. Khistopher reportedly appears very troubled after such conversations.  If this wasn't enough to make people nervous, there have been sightings of strange sprites, somewhat akin to the sprites that rise up from the wishing well, in the mountains and forest. These creatures seem to stir a disturbing sense of deja vu in many citizens of Khimeros. Some people have managed to capture and take them home, though no one has yet discovered what they are doing in Khimeros, where they came from or what their purpose is, since Wisu has denied that they originated from the Wishing Well.   31 Comments |

Onyx's Tea Shoppe seems to be closed, as its proprietor and her faithful companion, Neko, have mysteriously vanished! We're not quite sure where they've gone off to, but rest assured that we are searching high and low to find them. In the meantime, Khistopher has stepped in to take over Onyx's other duties (temporarily, of course), so if you see him around the site you should obey him as you would obey Onyx.  Even in such strange times, life goes on, and to that we have brand new quest rewards for Kai and Tai! OK this news post is to clarify some issues and to answer some questions posed in the news comments of the previous news, because I think there are some misconceptions.
The monthly lair slot for upgraded users will stay - in fact I can see this likely increasing. This will be separate from any other lair slots that are available. That means that an upgraded user will get their slot (or slots if we icnrease it) from being upgraded, AND the extra slots for activity (activity will likely be considered actually doing something on the site, like going from one page to another, rather than simply logging in and out, since our system lets people stay logged in for long periods). So, upgraded users won't be losing anything. Wisu says that yes, we will be able to enable users to search their own entire lairs, regardless of whether their entire lair is normally "searchable" or not. So if you search your own lairs to find mates for your khimeras, or whatever reason, you will still be able to do so freely. Regarding breeding slots. We are NOT intending to chop your breeding slots in half, or anything like that. In fact, average users will likely be able to pick up MORE breeding slots than they currently do. What is meant by "decreasing" breeding slots is that over time, as a user releases more and more khimeras each day, the chances start going down that you will get a breeding slot. This kind of control helps the average user to still get their fair share but helps PREVENT extreme cases from unbalancing the site. I think it's also likely in view of the ability to divide searchable and unsearchable khimeras, that we can give you a few MORE regular weekly breeding slots. Regarding the shimmering crystal rewards - fear not, we will be sure to keep an eye on them and make sure that adjustments are made such that they don't plummet in price (and to fix it if they do). However, the desired effect IS to have people releasing all their unwanted khimeras - we WANT people to release lots and lots of khimeras... that's kind of the whole point to offering SCs as a reward. However, it's probably that we'll have to have SOME kind of hard limit past which you won't get any rewards at all for releasing, but they'd be above anything that the average users would need to worry about. With regard to searchable slots - in future, buying a lair slot and buying a searchable slot will be two different things, but as of right now, any lair slots that you have purchased above your 200 will still be searchable. The difference between lair slots and searchable slots will ONLY be for purchases made AFTER the changes took place. Regarding who gets the extra 100 lair slots - everyone does, regardless of your current lair size. I think this addresses most of the issues that were raised in the previous news post, so please, do post your opinions again now that your concerns have been addressed, so that we can get another unofficial vote :) 63 Comments |
