First off, we'd like to let all users know that retro month festivities are not just for "paying users". There will be a free festival starting in a day or so with lots of new items to collect, so watch for news on that!

It's retro month! And that means retro packs!



For those who may have never participated in our special summer events before, the purpose of retro month is to allow users to "catch up" on items from previous treasure packs that they may have missed out on. This usually results in a vast increase in all monthly treasure items, so we have a follow-up event in August where users can "turn in" unwanted/excess treasures to get points that they can use to buy special items only available during turn-in month. This prevents a glut of devalued treasures on the market for the rest of the year. There will be another news post explaining all about turn-in month later in July!

For those of you who were not here last year, when you open a retro pack you will randomly receive one monthly treasure pack from any previous month, from June 2009 to March 2013, OR a special event item (see below for a list)! Arabi, Haiti, and Japan Relief packs are excluded this year to preserve their value.

We have also increased the rarity of a few of the older packs whose contents have decreased too far in price, to preserve their value.

Special Event Items

In addition to monthly treasure packs, 2013 retro packs contain the following items. Please note these are not bonus items, they are regular items you can get when opening a retro pack:

Variation Addition, Variation Subtraction, Variation Color Change Potions



Pattern Addition, Pattern Subtraction, Pattern Color Change Potions



Base Color Change Potions and Shidar Chrysalis



The pattern, variation and base color changers can be used to freshen up the look of any existing khimera with the EXCEPTION of special and random gryphs. Allowing these items to be used on gryphs would mean that users could apply them to comparatively cheap special/random gryphs and create new gryph customs for a fraction of the price of a gryph chrysalis, which would be extremely unfair to those who paid high prices to get their demo gryph chrysalids. We hope you all understand the necessity for this exception.

In previous years the special chrysalids were "bonus" items that a user received as an extra when opening a pack. This year they are not bonus items, but regular pack items, however we have increased the chance to receive a chrysalis when opening a pack.

HOWEVER, when you open 25 2013 retro single packs, you will automatically receive a bonus shidar chrysalis! You will receive this bonus EACH time you open another 25 packs, there is no limit!

Retro packs cost $4 for singles and $6 for a double pack. They are available in the cash shop now, only until the end of July!

Note: you may open up to 6 single retro packs at a time using the multi-pack opener, to reduce duplicates (due to the way the pool is set up this will REDUCE the chance for duplicates but not eliminate it). This will not reduce your chances at shidar chrysalids.

Our special new retro event breed, the shidar, is now available in the custom demo!



The shidar has a special feature in that the two front legs/paws are on different layers, allowing you to place items between their paws!

The shidar is an alternate hybrid of asadia and kalan. Both asadia-kalan and kalan-asadia pets can inherit the shidar base. Shidars are only create-able using shidar chrysalids, which come from retro packs and during turn-in month. More on that in the next news post!

As an alternate, the pass-down rate for the alternate base is 20% when one parent is a shidar and 40% when both parents are shidars. Just as a clarification, the 20% pass down rate only applies to asadia-kalan or kalan-asadia bases. Therefore, even if one parent is a shidar, the 20% rate only applies to asadia-kalan/kalan-asadia offspring. If you breed your shidar to an embarr and half the offspring are embarrs, obviously that is going to cut down on the number of shidars you will get from breeding those two parents. I hope this clears up some misconceptions!

Shidars come with 2 free patterns/1 free variation or vice versa. As always, upper and under patterns are free. You may add extra variations or patterns as usual for 5 beads each via the custom demo.

All variations are available for shidars! However, the dragonfly wings are not yet in the demo. They will be included as soon as possible.

As a last note, there may still be some minor tweaking of patterns and variations, so while you may have fun designing in the custom demo, we strongly urge that you hold off on creating any shidar customs until we give the "all clear", if you feel that you may be unhappy with any changes that may occur.
