Unfortunately, we are going to have to remove the trinket payout for sudoku.

Despite the TOS clearly stating: "Do not utilize any kind of cheat or hack to enhance game play, including but not limited to auto-refreshers or scripts designed to play the game for you in any way.", and a previous news post dealing with this same matter, people have on numerous occasions posted links to sudoku solvers.

There has also been talk of how it's impossible for us to discover cheaters, with the implication that people should feel free to cheat with impunity. I have also been told that these things have been discussed in offsite chatrooms and IMs.

Because of this, we have no choice but to eliminate the payout for sudoku. We attempted to find some way to change the game so that it was not cheatable, whether by a different configuration or using images, etc. but there just isn't any way.

We are NOT doing this to punish you, and I feel very bad that honest users have to suffer because of the dishonesty of a few. But we have to think of the good of the site as a whole, and allowing/tacitly encouraging cheating by leaving the game up is not an option.

Keep in mind there WILL be more games! In fact, a new game is coming out shortly. We will not remove the sudoku payout until the new game is up. In future we will be more careful to try to create games that are not cheatable in this fashion.

Upgraded users can now get your November monthly item!

Nope we haven't forgotten about October. However, we can't really go back and find out which accounts bought upgrades in October, so we will likely hand out a second monthly item to everyone who has upgraded thus far :)

We've always had a backup running daily to save our database/code. :) This hasn't changed. This backup is saved to a (physical) secondary drive, so in the event of a crash/mess with the first drive, we've got our backups just waiting for us.

However, yesterday we ordered a rather more complex backup plan. It is currently running hourly on our mysql partition, saving the entirety of our database so we can pick up from the last viable hourly backup if things go awry. :3 It is also running on all our code/images every day. This backup is saved on a different server for even more hardware redundancy.

There were short downtimes yesterday which were related to the first copy taken of our data. It should not cause any more downtimes after this, but we will be monitoring to make sure it really doesn't affect how our site behaves.


tl;dr: Our data is even more safe now and our hosting has great services. :)

Until now I have allowed people to change their usernames by messaging me, however this was only meant to be a temporary measure for people who had errors from signing up.

Henceforward there will be no more free username changes UNLESS there is a legitimate reason such as an error during sign up.

We WILL be offering a ways to change usernames in future but there will be a fee and you will ONLY be able to change a username once in a limited amount of time.

Due to the recent increase in people asking/hinting for freebies in the chat, we're going to have to ban giveaways of khimeras and items through the chat. I'd also like to remind everyone to read the chat and forum rules and TOS if you have not done so already, as we already have a policy against asking for free stuff anywhere on the site.

If you wish to give away khimeras or items to newbies, please make a thread in the giveaways subforum. But please do not link to giveaways from the chat either, as this will only encourage this kind of behavior. We will add a reminder in the chat rules that users looking for free khimeras can check out the giveaways forum.
