And it's time for a new contest!

This month we'll be having an art contest! The theme is "Snow Day". Show us what your khimera(s) like to do in the first big snowfall of the year!

Your entry must contain at least one currently existing Khimera (meaning possible to exist, not necessarily one that you own). It may contain more than one khimera, khimbits, humans, etc. and can be digital, traditional, sculpture, fabric art, etc. You must be able to provide a clear image of your entry, however. Can be colored or not.

Each user may enter once.

The contest closes at 11:59 PM December 31.

Prizes:

1st place: a purebred chrysalis of your choice and a Khistopher jumbo plush

2nd place: 10 beads and an Arabasti jumbo plush

3rd place: 5 beads and an Onyx jumbo plush

A random entry will also be selected from all non-winning entries to receive 5 beads!

Please do not PM your entries, but use bbcode to post either the link and/or a no more than 500 x 500 px image in the Winterfest Art Contest 2010 thread in the Contests and Games forum!

This is just an update to let everyone know what's going on behind the scenes.

As most of you know we had a discussion last month about changing the pets, and since a lot of people wanted to keep the existing hybrids as well as adding some new alternates, we came up with a way to do that. But it requires a LOT of changes to the "back end" of the site.

The pets are all being changed from having two sets of files, one for the front and one for the back, to having a single set of files for both. The current pets will continue to look the same but the coding will be quite different. This means all files for the pets (and there were hundreds) had to be combined.

The breeding system also has to be re-coded to work with the new system, since we will be adding alternate hybrids and purebreds - meaning that when you breed you can get different bases once we start actually adding in the alternates.

The first alternate, the asadia-likos previously posted in the news, is being prepared for release, hopefully in the near future.

The custom demo also has to be re-coded to allow for choosing alternate pet bases when creating customs and for demoing what breeding-only alternates look like with various markings, etc.

In short there's a lot of work going on behind the scenes. We are also planning some other changes to the site game play, to do with foraging and crafting.

We will soon also be releasing themed customs for khimeras :) (Similar to what is available on Aluriya).

With everything going on, I know the monthly item from last month is very late, but it will still be going out to everyone who should have received one, and the new monthly item will be in soon as well.

I've been really off my game for the past couple weeks, getting a bit burned out and my productivity has gone down the tubes because of it. So I'm going to do something I haven't done in a very long time and *gasp* take a couple of days off!

During this time I will probably still pop into the chat but I won't be doing any actual work. Unless, like, I get really bored >_> Which is actually fairly likely but I'm going to tryyyyyy not to do anything site related for a couple days ^_^;

I'll be back at it again on Monday!

Related to the news posted below. We have introduced a new feature whereby you can open multiple cash shop packs at once. When you open more than one pack at a time, you are guaranteed no repeats (up to the total number of unique items available for the month). You can only open multiple packs at one time, during the month the packs are available in the cash shop (because the page will have to be updated monthly to reflect the new items available).

We hope you enjoy this new feature! When you click on a November treasure pack, you will automatically be taken to the treasure pack opening page.

New khimbits have appeared in the swamp and forest! And the cash shop too!
