"Alternate" khimeras are khimeras that look different from the "normal" khimeras that you can see in the custom demo. An alternate may have the same base as a normal khimera, but have a special color. They may have some lineart edits, like new wings. Or, they may look completely different from other khimeras, with their own lineart and coloring.

There are many different ways to get an alternate khimera, with special events and prizes, elixirs, and the wishing well, being the three main means of obtaining alternates. In the future, alternates will also be included in the custom demo, so that you can choose from two different linearts for a likos or a hybrid, for example.

It is important to understand that an alternate khimera has a custom image applied to it, however they still retain a normal khimera's genetic info underneath - markings, colors and even variations like wings and mane, that don't show up in the image. This is important for breeding your alternates.

Most alternates have some kind of limitations to their creation - for example, the elixir needed to transform a khimera may have only been available for a limited time. You can still buy an elixir from another user after that time, but the total number of elixirs available were all obtained during that time period.

You can look up any particular type of alternate in the Index tab to find out how they were created, then check the appropriate category in the guide for more information on that alternate and how it was created, along with images of each alternate.

An alternate khimera has a chance of passing on its image to offspring. If one parent is an alternate, there is a 20% chance for the offspring to have an alternate image. If two alternate khimeras are bred together, they each have a 20% chance of passing on their image, so the probability of having alternate offspring is doubled, to 40%.

Khimeras that are born in the alternate form have the same chance of passing on the alternate image as the original alternate khimeras do.

In addition, some khimeras can "carry" alternate images. For example if you breed a panthira asadia to an embarr, if you get an asadia offspring it will ALWAYS show a panthira image if it inherited the "alternate" genetics. However, an embarr offspring can inherit the "alternate" genetics as well, but since it is an embarr, the alternate image does not show. An embarr carrying panthira genetics can pass on the alternate image to any asadia offspring they may have, or pass on the alternate genetics to non-asadia offspring.

What are the chances if I breed two *different* alternates together?

KHIMERAS TURNED INTO ALTERNATES CAN NEVER BE RETURNED TO THEIR ORIGINAL FORMS, THOUGH THEY MAY BE TURNED INTO DIFFERENT ALTERNATES.

Turning your khimera into its alternate version is permanent and cannot be undone. That being said, think VERY CAREFULLY about changing your khimera into an alternate, because you can never get the original image back.

If you want to keep track of what your khimera looked like before it was transformed, make sure to save its image to your computer before you change it into an alternate form.

Wearables that equip directly onto the normal khimera image (hats, necklaces, bracelets, etc) do not display correctly on alternates. They will still display in the same position as they do on the "normal" version of the breed, for example, if you equip a snowflake necklace to a panthira it will appear on the panthira in the same position that it appears on a regular asadia, not on the neck of the panthira.

However, all of the background/environment items, khimbits, and the moveable/resizeable items will work just fine with all alternates.
